Our Commitment to Your Health Information
As a patient of Eye Gotcha, you may have met me in office. I am Emmett Pratt, and I am not just an eyewear fanatic and optician, but I also watch over IT and compliance operations at Eye Gotcha. I wanted to start with a brief explanation about my view on the Health Insurance Portability and Privacy Act, otherwise called HIPAA. HIPAA is not a four letter word, and it is not a method to control patient data in any means that diminishes patient care. It may be a drag all the paperwork and legal drudgery, but HIPAA is nothing more than a framework to protect the patient. Patient's have rights when it comes to your information. You have the right to continuity of care; you have the right to access your information in a timely manner; you have the right to make sure that information is correct; and you have the right to keep sensitive and confidential information private.
The technology world is ever changing and so are threats, and as technology changes, so will the rules that govern how we maintain and protect your information for you to use and medical professionals to use down the road when you need. As such, we are always changing our technology and procedures to be sure that we are doing the best we can to uphold these standards. So, as the saying goes, please mind our dust as we are continually building and rebuilding our tools and infrastructure to stay ahead of the curve and give you the access to care you deserve.
We are dedicated to your rights and to be the professionals you deserve.
Your information is our responsibility, and over the last few years we have been migrating your information into newer systems that better serve our clients and friends. As technology is ever changing so is the technology that we use to serve. We think hard about the choices we make when it comes to technology so that we only add to our patient's experience. We are committed to maintaining rigorous security while providing access to your information. We do not share your health information with any unauthorized third parties nor do we sell your information.
As we migrate patient data into our new systems we will be verifying information to make sure our records are up to date. We will never call you to ask for information unless we are currently serving you with eyewear orders or have upcoming appointments. For your security and for the best service we do require patients to call into the office to conduct business regarding appointments or your health information.
If you have any questions regarding your health information or about our commitment to the security and integrity of your information please contact our HIPAA Compliance Officer, Emmett Pratt, at emmett@eyegotchasf.com.
